Why to buy:
The Samsung Galaxy Y Duos offers dual sim support, Android 2.3 gingerbread and has come up with more and rich features. Its battery life is fine too.
Why to avoid:
The Y duos like its predecessor offer a weak 832 MHz processor and the camera is just 2 Mega pixels.
Our Take:
This is a better phone than Samsung’s own Galaxy Y in many features and functionality but still lacks with some basics.
Rating:
Price: Rs. 6,990

Detailed Review
Design:The Samsung Galaxy Y Duos as the name says is a Dual sim supporting phone with some advanced functions. It is reasonably priced at Rs. 6,990 and is a new addition in the Samsung Galaxy’s Y family. Its screen size is 2.8 inches and it comes with TFT capacitive touchscreen technology. The dimensions of Galaxy Y Duos are 103.9mm, 57.9mm and 12.98mm in height, width and depth. It weights is less to just 103 gm. The body is plastic material but well fitted. Y duos comes with less dedicated keys, on the right side it just has a power/lock key and the left side hold the volume control key. On the top it has a 3.5 mm earjack and the USB port for charging and Connectivity. Below the screen is a physical Home key with Back and Menu Capacitive touch keys. Above its screen is just proximity sensor next to the earpiece. But, Galaxy Y Duos lacks with a dedicated camera key and a front camera too. The design of Galaxy Y Duos is simple, attractive and youth appealing.
Interface/OS:
The Samsung Galaxy Y Duos runs on Android 2.3 Gingerbread operating system. It comes with a single core 832 MHz processor and it has 512 MB RAM. This android version is well supported with this phone unlike Galaxy Y lacks with its processor and slower RAM. However, there are many phones in this segment which offers at least 1 GHz processor.
Camera:
For you Samsung galaxy Y Duos has a 2 megapixels camera with Geo-Tagging but lacks with LED flash and auto focus. Y Duos also lacks with a front facing camera and can be depressing for video call lovers. Though the camera embedded in the devise is fine and image quality is good too but with proper lights. Camera captures video too but with QVGA effects at 15 frames per second. The speed is not that quick because of its slow processor. The overall camera work is good but is limited because of technicalities.
Audio/Video:
The Samsung Galaxy Y Duos in-built has its own Touch Wiz music player. The same music player exists in all galaxy phones and the sound quality is not compromised. It has the DNSe sound enhancing sound technology and equalizer presets but lacks with 5.1 channel virtualization. The audio quality with the headphones is really good but when on loudspeaker mode the quality falls down. In-built Stereo FM with RDS is best enjoyed with headphones on and can be enjoyed in loudspeaker mode too. The video player embedded in Galaxy Y is simple and easy to operate. But, it gives low resolution to video captures. It supports 3GP and MP4 video formats and the plays video up to WVGA resolution. The videos recorded or downloaded can be played with the video player and they can be transferred to you TV or computer too.
Memory:
Galaxy Y from Samsung offers you with in-built 3 GB memory space, which is better than its other Galaxy series, but through micro SD card it is expandable up to 32 GB. Your SMS and phone book entries depend on the availability of memory space in your phone.
Features:
The Samsung Galaxy Y Duos is a high lower range Android phone and is filled with lot many android features. aGPS, Google Maps, MMS, instant messaging, e-mail and personal organizer functions all exists in-built for you. For connectivity you get various options in-built like: Wi-Fi (to enjoy wireless network), Bluetooth 2.1(to share data, photos, videos, etc. with other devices), USB 2.0(to connect you device with TV or Computer/Laptop), 3.5 mm audio jack (to enjoy music, Radio and Videos), the much hyped ChatOn service (enables single and multi-person conversations, multimedia file sharing and even more) and Samsung Kies Air (that help you syncing data with your PC/Laptop). For internet Samsung Galaxy Y Duos has many options pre installed like: Layer reality browser, android browser, GPRS, EDGE, 3G and HSDPA 7.2 MBPS. Facebook, Twitter and you tube is embedded in it and the social hub offers a fully incorporated one page layout of your phone book, IM, e-mail and SNS.
Battery:
Samsung Galaxy Y Duos is power packed with standard Li-Ion 1200 mAh battery, which has done justice to this device. It delivers the stand by time up to 410 hours on 2G and up to 370 hours on 3G. The Talk Time delivered is also impressive which is up to 14 hours on 2G and up to 6 hours on 3G.
Conclusion:
The Samsung Galaxy Y Duos is a good phone in this price range and is good option for college going youth. The 2.8 inch screen size is good for this smartphone, the 2 mega pixels camera could have been better, but the battery life is good and the features embedded are better and abundant. But there are few options that this phone is missing with and it could have make this the best in this segment such as: front camera, HD video resolution, etc. overall we give this phone 3.5 star rating.
