BlackBerry 10 to have apps with local flavours

Zeebiz Bureau

New Delhi: Aiming to make its comeback in the market with the launch of BlackBerry 10 operating system, Research-in-Motion is leaving no stones unturned. The new OS will have applications in local flavours for customers in various regions.

BlackBerry 10 OS is slated to be launched on January 30, 2013.

According to an interview given to a news agency, RIM Chief Executive Thorsten Heins said, "the tactic we are deploying is by country and by region. We are aiming to have the most important 200 to 400 apps available, because many applications are regional and they really do have a regional flavor."

App libraries play a crucial role in the success or failure of smartphones. One of the reasons behind RIM's PlayBook tablet computer’s failure in 2011 was dearth of apps.

RIM has projected 100,000 apps in its new platform. In comparison, RIM’s number of projected apps is still lesser in number than Apple and Google app store, each of which boast over 700,000 apps.
